Quick tip: Packing musical instruments
To start, no matter what type of instrument you are storing (unless it is a free standing instrument), place it in a hard case lined with acid-free tissue paper.
If storing drums, loosen the skins to prevent stretching. Also wrap drum pedals and kick stands carefully. In the same way, wrap the pedals and legs of free standing instruments like pianos to prevent damage.
If possible separate woodwinds and strings into sections. This will protect the joints and make storage easier.
Lastly, no matter what instrument you are storing, properly clean it before packing.
